  • What do I do after my pool is opened?

It is very important to care properly for your pool and filtration system after your pool has been opened.

You should re-shock your pool daily (usually with 1-4lbs depending upon pool size) and backwash regularly until the water is clear. Backwashing instructions can be found below based upon filter type.

When you can see the bottom clearly through the water, you are ready for your initial vacuum. Call us to schedule your vacuum when you can see the bottom clearly through the water. If Sky Blue Pools arrives at your house and we are unable to vacuum due to water clarity, you will be charged a visit fee as well as for chemicals if we perform a chemical treatment.

  • When and how do you backwash a sand filter?

A sand filter should be backwashed when the pressure on the filter rises 10-15 psi above starting pressure, or the pressure in your returns (jets) seem to be very sluggish. Upon opening your pool this may be required 2-3 times a day.

  • When should I open my pool?

Every customer has a different preference as to when they would like to open their pool. As a best practice, we recommend opening your pool 2 weeks prior to a date of which you would like to use your pool. This provides ample time for vacuuming and repairs (should they be necessary). Always allow yourself extra time to have your pool perfect. Also, bear in mind that many customers wish to have their pools ready for holidays such as Memorial Day, if you’re ahead of the game, you will be ready to go and be sure to enjoy your holiday worry free with a sparkling pool. Schedule your pool services well in advance by calling Sky Blue Pools today.

  • When should I close my pool?

It is a personal choice that depends upon several factors as to when a customer will choose to close their pool for a season. If you have many trees in your backyard, you may opt to close early to prevent the foliage from falling in the pool. If you have a heater, you may desire to keep your pool open longer. It is recommended to close your pool prior to freezing temperatures to limit the possibility of freeze damage to plumbing. For further information, please contact Sky Blue Pools.
